University Behind Bars

The Black Prisoners Caucus played an integral part in the creation of University Behind Bars and has an active involvement on the advisory board. UBB is a collegiate based education program that assists offenders in obtaining an education on a college level while behind bars.

 

What We Offer

For  offenders who qualify (with testing), the Sponsors and Volunteers of the program raise money in the community and within their respected churches and other community organizations to help pay for books, supplies and tuition for each and every student.


Through the U.B.B., every student may receive 4 full credits for each class through Ohio University. And in turn it prepares them for a healthy college atmosphere inside, as well as, upon release.

With growing support from out volunteers and sponsors, the University Behind Bars has turned into a well organized education program with a variety classes available:

C=credited by Ohio University      NC=non-credited class by U.B.B.

  • African American History - C
  • Art - NC
  • Child Psychology - NC
  • Creative Writing - NC 
  • Film - NC 
  • Into to Investing - NC
  • Language Arts
  • Math 101 - C 
  • Small Business Management  - C
  • Sociology - C

  

Cost

Tuition for each test ranges from $274-$294 per student. Successful completion of each course grants every student 4 college credits.

Donations help with tuition, books, supplies & materials for all students enrolled.
